Advanced Animal Care of Colorado can provide all levels of stud dog management including a full range of semen services. These include:
Sperm Collection and Evaluation: using our Spermvision CASA system (Computer Assisted Semen Analysis) by MiniTube. We are one of the few reproduction veterinarians in the Colorado area to use this advanced technology. This system allows for an accurate sperm count, motility assessment, morphology analysis as well as a way to store this data and visualize it on a full screen monitor. All the information that is gathered from each semen collection and analysis is stored in our database for future reference and comparison. There is a great deal of data that is also being collected and stored on each evaluation that can contribute to future research about semen quality and viability in regards to fertility. We can provide you with an emailed copy of our full evaluations with every collection as well for your records.
Semen collection for insemination services:
To use in a side by side insemination
To chill with extenders and shipped for use in a breeding at another location
To freeze and store in our semen bank, Canine Genetic Reserve, for later use at Advanced
Animal Care of Colorado
To freeze and ship to another storage facility for current or later use
To freeze and ship Internationally
Semen collection and freezing:
we freeze canine and feline semen in pelleted form and store with our own semen bank, Canine Genetic Reserve. We also can freeze semen for the purpose of shipping to another state or country. For international use, we need to be notified in advance as each country has unique requirements that need to be performed at the time of the collection – just give us a call and we can talk about them.
Semen collection and chill testing: this can be done in advance of a planned breeding that will be using fresh chilled semen. We will test the sperm quality with several chilled semen extenders in advance of the breeding to ensure the dog can provide a high quality sample that maintains motility in chilled media when being shipped. This is highly recommended before the expenses of ovulation timing and shipping occur, so there are no surprises during the actual breeding!
