   Dog Obedience, Training & Puppy Classes     

PUPPY CLASSES STARTING JULY 12th, 2017 - WEDNESDAYS AT 6:30 PM!

POWER TO THE PUPPIES!

In this hour-long class Hope Mielke will teach you how to start empowering your puppy to offer the behavior choices that work for both of you, including life skills like sit, down, leave it, come, focus, impulse control, and more. You'll also learn how to use various positive reinforcers, effectively socialize your puppy, and read the subtleties of body language so that you can better understand your puppy's communications with you. Of course, puppy essentials such as house-training, chewing, and learning to be gently restrained will be covered too! Lastly we hope to include some games, like Pass The Puppy, Musical Chairs, and the Best Of "Three Things I Love About My Puppy." Each week we will work on behaviors, allow periods of well-supervised play, and have a Q & A session.

PLEASE BRING TO EACH CLASS:

  • Harness (Front Clip is best, but not required) and 6 foot leash 
  • Generous amounts of treats (there will be some available)  
  • Mat upon which your puppy can lie down
  • Water and Bowl
  • Patience and a Sense of Humor!

Here's what you need to do to get signed up:
•    Make sure your puppy is at least 8 weeks old and has had their first round of vaccinations
•    If AACC is not your usual vet, please have your vet email us a copy of your puppy's current vaccination records to hospital@aacofco.com

Behaviors covered will be sit, down, coming when called, matwork, attention and beginning of loose lead walking. Puppies will have opportunity to play together under supervision with emphasis on learning to break away from distractions.

Goals of this class are to start your puppy up the road to becoming a happy, focused, confident dog!

 HIGH SCHOOL PUPPY CLASS JULY 12th, 2017 - WEDNESDAY AT 7:30pm

This hour-long class is designed to continue your (6-12 month old) teenage puppy's journey to becoming the focused, confident dog you want him or her to be! Hope Mielke will teach you life skills like manners in public, door etiquette, loose lead walking, focus, focus, and more focus, socialization and surviving puberty positively, agility for confidence building, tricks for fun and focus, essential skills such as sit, down, come and leave it will be reviewed and new ones such as stay, emergency recall, heeling and more will be learned.

FAMILY DOG 101!

In this class we will teach you how to teach your dog to offer basic obedience behaviors that are necessary for every family pet including life skills like down, stay, leave it, come, focus, impulse control and more. You'll also learn how to  use various positive reinforcers, and to effectively read the subtleties of body language so that you can communicate more clearly with your dog. Of course, essentials such as how to greet other dogs on leash as well leash manners, chewing, and learning to read you pet's emotional behavior motivators will also be covered.

Our class consists of seven sessions that are 1 hour each. Each week we will work on behaviors and have a Q & A session.

Appropriate equipment for your class includes regular flat collars or a harness (front clips work best), a 6-foot lead and some kind of "mat" for your dog to lie on. The latter can be an old, soft bath towel, a rug, a fleece throw, etc. Although we will have treats available, please bring a supply of some treats your dog loves (the soft stinky kind work the best!) to each class.

•    Make sure your dog is at least 6 months old and is current on their rabies, bordetella (every 6 months), parvo, and distemper vaccinations

Obedience training teaches your dog to come when called, proper social behavior around people and other dogs, and self-control. In our classes you will also learn how to stop behaviors that can damage your loving relationship with your dog and encourage those good behaviors which will bond you and your dog for life. A client practicing shaking our technicians hand Positive reinforcement dog training utilizes praise and rewards rather than punishment and corrections to teach dogs right from wrong. Treats, toys, praise and affection are used to REWARD your dog. Reward-based training allows for happy dogs, happy people and a strong and healthy relationship. Puppies are never too young to learn and older dogs are never too old to learn new behaviors. When your puppy starts going out in public, it is time to start class and teach him how to be a well-behaved community member.

Please contact us to sign your canine up for classes. We need to review vaccination records ahead of time, and the following paperwork is needed for your class. Please fill out prior to the first class:

Well behaved children are invited to attend our canine behavior classes. We expect them to follow our protocol for classroom etiquette:

  • Indoor voices
  • Gentle guidance for dogs
  • No food or drink
  • Adult supervision
  • No interaction with puppies/dogs other than their own without owner permission.
